Alexandrium catenella nowcast/forecast for the Gulf of Maine

Annual Alexandrium catenella blooms in the Gulf of Maine produce potent neurotoxins that accumulate in shellfish and cause Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP) in human consumers. NOAA NCCOS has developed Gulf of Maine Alexandrium catenella predictive models to better predict and monitor blooms of this species and and shellfish toxicity with the goal to minimize impacts to public health and coastal economies. Gulf of Maine HAB Science Symposium in 2025

The next Gulf of Maine HAB Science Symposium will be held at the NHDES in Portsmouth, NH in March, 2025 (exact dates TBD).  This meeting brings together researchers, managers, and stakeholders to share research findings, information and data, and monitoring plans about HABs in New England waters.
